Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition - Vanishing Glaciers of Everest

May 2015

By C. Scott Watson

'Himalayan glaciers feed rivers that support one fifth of the world’s population, but their future is uncertain.'

Today the University of Leeds School of Geography glaciology contingent traveled down to Sheffield to check out the final preparations for our role in the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition - Vanishing Glaciers of Everest. The exhibit will be presented by a small team of researchers from universities across the UK, including the University of Sheffield, the University of Leeds, Aberystwyth University, Northumbria University, and the University of Hertfordshire.

We will have several activities on our exhibit that visitors can interact with, including a huge block of melting ice and a 3d model of the Everest region. One of the youngest British climbers to summit Mount Everest - Mollie Hughes, will also be joining the team.

You can read more about our exhibit on the Royal Society website.
